“System” and “Utility” are not embedded under a connection to an ArcGIS Server,

I’m wondering how come the “System” and “Utility” are not embedded under a connection to an ArcGIS Server. The only thing that I have is the “Draft”. Please, have a look on the screenshot below:

Attachment 21415

Before, I used to have these components are depicted in the screenshot below:

Attachment 21414

For the time being, I’m not able to publish anything (mxd, image, loc, tbx, )

How can I restore them (“System” and “Utility”)? can one publish without these components?

Thank you for the help,

Best

KML Network Link - Port number

$

Hello,

I'm relatively new to ArcGIS Server; so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to create a KML network Link to a published service.

Using the ArcGIS Server Manager via port 6080 (:6080/arcgis/manager/index.html). I also have the IIS web adapter enabled with no admin access.

When I create the Network link it generates the following URL

http://arcgis-server:6080/arcgis/res...s/kml/test.kmz

which can also be accessed via port 80

http://arcgis-server/arcgis/rest/dir...s/kml/test.kmz

The problem I have is the KML link within the KMZ contains a reference to port 6080

<Link>
<href>http://arcgis-server:6080/arcgis/services/Test/MapServer/KmlServer?Composite=false&amp;VectorsToRasters=true&amp;compatibilityMode=GoogleEarth&amp;LayerIDs=0</href>

Our firewall only allows access to port 80.

How can I change the port number on the KML link?

Thank you very much

WFS - one or more arguments are invalid

Hi,

I'm trying to publish a vector map as a WFS service to arcgis server. Analysis returns no error but when I try to publish, I get the error "one or more arguments are invalid". I can't find from where does this error come.

I published another layer and didn't get any problem. Both layers are in Oracle, the faulty one comes from a shp+mdb join and copy features to the geodatabase, the other was just the shp. I tried to convert crs to wgs84, no change.

Thanks for any help,

Olivier

Error: Feature Service requires a registered database

$

Hi,

Hopefully a pretty straightforward one...

There are two issues really.
First is described in point 6. where i was unable to uncheck the 'Feature Access' option, and only publish a map service, is this how locally saved point feature classes work?

Second, is how do i register locally saved feature class. Saved in c:\TestData\TestData.gdb? I can save and register the folder location OK, but having no database platform such as SQL Server installed - how can this step be performed?
Can you help me with what am i missing from the install guide?

1. Installed and licensed ArcGIS Server 10.1 (windows) OK.
2. Login to ArcGIS Server Manager OK.
3. ArcMap 10.1 Desktop create a simple point layer held in locally saved feature class, within a file geodatabase OK.
4. ArcMap Admin connection to Server OK.
5. Publish via File > Save As...Service throws error based on the fact that the layer's data source must be registered.
6. Understand that Feature Services must be registered with server, so try to uncheck the 'Feature Access' option but this is not possible (going back to step 5. and within the Publish > Capabilities window see pic1.png)

I have not installed webadaptor or SDE on my local machine...yet.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Caroline

Custom error message on SOE startup

I have an SOE with properties set, one of the properties is a file the SOE needs to operate and loads when the SOE is constructed. If this file is missing I get a system error when the service that uses the SOE is started in Manager and it shows the .NET error details on the Manager page.

This is to be expected, but what I want is to catch this exception and send my own message to the ArcGIS Manager to give the user a customized message.

In all samples I see all the errors are being captured by ServerLogger and sent to the log files, I want to change what is seen in the Manager window when error occurs. Is this possible?

Using AGS Server 10.1/.NET

Thanks

Registering data source with server problems

I am trying to set up ArcGIS fo Server 10.1 and am running into a problem. In ArcMap, I create a new map and add a feature dataset (Telecom Model, provided by ESRI) taht has about 27 features. When I try to share this service (File/Share As/Service), then run Analyze, I get a problem that I can't resolve.

The error is "Data source is not registered with the server and data will be copied to the server (27 items)".

I have registered both the Database and Folders in the Data Stores dialog box, also validating them.

If I right-click one of the 27 features and select Register Data Source with Server, I get a dialog box for Register Database. The Shared Database is already filled in with my instance of SQL and the Name field is empty. I enter a generic name in the Name field and select OK. This prompts the following error:

"The database is already registered as ArcGIS Server Managed Database".

I must be missing something but it seems to me it's telling me I have to register the database but when I try it says it's already registered. I admit I'm not very knowledgable on SQL, servers, databases, etc...graduated from the various desktop products (3.1, 8.x, 9.x, now 10.x) to recently obtaining ArcGIS for Server and having to learn on the fly. BTW, I've watched the videos on registering data sources and I think I'm following what to do...I suspect it's something else entirely.

Thanks.

Accessing the “ArcGIS viewer for flex” installed on the server machine,

Accessing the “ArcGIS viewer for flex” installed on the server machine,

The “ArcGIS viewer for flex” is installed on the server machine (named P2). I tried to access it (from my machine named as P1) by typing http://P2/flexviewers but sounds not to work. I got the message below

Attachment 21463, Attachment 21464

In return, I did the same thing in case of “ArcGIS viewer for Silverlight” and it did work. I could access it using the url http://p2/builder/ but failed to deploy the application

Attachment 21465, Attachment 21466

What might be the issue?
How one can build these application on the server machine (p2) while working from client machine (p1)?

Do I need to have IIS on the client machine (P1)?

Thank you

Best

Feature Service error when uploading

I am working on adding a feature service to a javascript mapping application. I have determined that it has to do with the feature service, as the javascript seems to be doing what it should.

The error i get in the javasscript console in chrome is below. When attempting to use the apply edit form in the feature service age the same error occurs:"Unable to complete operation."

change required non alpha numeric characters

I have an installation of ArcServer 10.1 SP1 on windows. I've successfully changed the security store to a custom sql server store as per instructions on help docs. I can even create users and roles using either the rest/admin interface or through arcgis/manager. However, by default (as noted in documentation), I'm required to have at least one "non-alphanumeric character" which I'm familiar with in .net *.config files.

My problem: I can't seem to change this anywhere. I thought the machine.config or web.config file (under web adaptor app in iis) settings would change this, but to no avail.

Question: How can I change this setting ("minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters") and/or other settings like minimum password length, in the said version of arcgis for server?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does the option "Feature Access" requires the database to be SDE?

I’m not sure if the option that enables performing editing over the web requires the database to be SDE (not file or personal)

Optimization Question: More services vs more layers?

$

Hi,
I've been trying to figure out - is there a performance trade-off between services and layers? For instance, all other things being equal (and the decision not affecting any business or mapping applications), would it be better to have less web services and more layers per web service, or more web services and less layers per web service? Or would it be equal performance wise?

Thanks!

Upgrading geodatabases and locators from 10.04 to 10.1

Hi,

I recently upgraded from 10.04 to 10.1. Now I am trying to find documentation on upgrading geodatabases and the locators. Is an upgrade needed for geodatabases and locators? Or is it just a matter of rebuilding the locators? Any info is helpful, thanks.

Thanks,

Beth

ArcGIS REST Services Directory - QueryTask - Join/Relates - Fully Qualified Names

[ArcGIS Server 10.1 SP1 (Windows) / ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 SP1]

Hi all,

In ArcMap i made a map that joins a feature class of points to two standalone tables that contain the detailed information about each point and i published as a map service.

When i make in the ArcGIS REST Services Directory a Identify or a Find to the map service all works fine but....when i make a Query the result comes always with the fully qualified names for the fields (ex: GMAG.GMAGCREATOR.equipamentosCartaSocial_WGS84.Equipamento) not with the fields alias.

Can someone have an idea?

Thanks in advance,

Accelerating map cache creation by using file geodatabases

Hello.
I am trying to accelerate map cache creation (and decrease Oracle/server load) by following esri's blog / best practices listed here:

http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/20.../#comment-4038

Specifically, I am trying to use the recommendation to copy file gdbs to each server in the caching cluster.

I copied a file gdb to an identical location on each of 9 servers. I have the "publish" version of the mxd on one of the 9 servers and I attempt to publish it. I can successfully get through the analyze step, I have a validated data store, it succeeds in creating the staging file (according to the GP Results), but it fails on the upload service definition step, claiming that each of my 15 data layers in my mxd are "invalid".

I worked with esri tech support on the issue, but they were not really aware of this best practice, and struggled with the difference between "Publisher Folder Path" and "Server Folder Path" on the Data Store. The only thing we could get to work was to share the folder that housed the file gdb, map the shared resource in ArcCatalog, and build the data store using the share name. However, I don't think this is what the best practice intended. Instead of 9 servers pointing at an Oracle gdb, I now have 9 servers pointed at a single file gdb on one of the servers. Not ideal.

Has anyone implemented this "best practice" and/or is there more detailed documentation on the steps? Esri Tech Support is not aware of any and claim that it is only a blog, so they don't have any detailed information on how to support it.

Thanks,
Will

Editing on the web using “ArcGIS Web ADF”,

It tied to add the “editor” task while working on the “ArcGIS Web ADF”

Attachment 21522, Attachment 21523, Attachment 21524

but I got the message below:

“This task requires an ArcGIS Server Local Service that is based on a map document (MXD). Please add an ArcGIS Server Local Service that is based on a map document (MXD) on the previous step before configuring the task.”

What might be the issue?

What is weird is that I used the same service in the “ArcGIS viewer for flex” and I could edit on the web!

ArcGIS REST Services Directory using an SOE

$

I have an SOE which extends the ArcGIS Server map services. The SOE itself works well, i.e. I can call the various functions with no problem. The issue I have is using the ArcGIS Services Directory in order to explore my SOE.

In particular, I have Child Resources off my root resource which are not collections but do have child resources. The resource is sort of like a folder which contains other folders. Here is an portion of the schema:

{
"name": "NE",
"isCollection": false,
"resources": [{
"name": "Inventory",
"isCollection": false,
"operations": [{
// Text omitted
}

When I click on Inventory in the REST Services Directory what the code returns is a response which is application/json where the content is "{}". What the browser then does is to issue the following prompt "Do you want to open or save Inventory.json (2 bytes) from localhost?". The browser I am using is IE 10 on Windows 8 x64.

What am I doing wrong? I believe that this code used to work in version 10 but I am currently running 10.1 SP1.
