Blurry annotation and line work with new arcgis server 10.1 and api 3.1

$

Not sure if this is a server issue, arcgis10.1 issue, or 3.1api issue. However, since I've update all my software i've noticed the quality of my annotation and line work on my web app services are blurry when viewing the web page. If you zoom in very close there isn't a problem, but prior to the updates i could view the web page at various scales and still maintain clarity.

Any thoughts?

Help with Help docs SOE question

I am trying to publish a Server Object Extension in 10.1. This page

http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/...000004s7000000

says:

Build your project and package it into an .soe file—Starting at ArcGIS 10.1 for Server, SOEs are encapsulated in an .soe file. After compiling your code, you create the .soe file using Esri-provided utilities integrated into your IDE.

That is all it says. I understand "Build your project" but have no clue how to "package it into an .soe file". There is absolutely no help on this.

Please expound.

Thanks

Error on using an SOE project Template

In visual studio I create a project and use the REST Template.

Without doing anything else, I build the project and get

Could not load file or assembly 'ESRI.ArcGIS.SOESupport, Version=10.1.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=8fc3cc631e44ad86' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

I verified that the file in the references exists on the computer. It is, however, version 10.1.0.3035 - as are the rest of the referenced ESRI assemblies in the project which also exist. I suppose that means the problem must be "one of its dependencies". How do I figure out what the dependencies are?

Thanks

UPDATE: It has something to do with this line in the csproj file:

<Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\ESRI\ESRI.ArcGIS.AddIns.Server.targets" Condition="Exists('$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\ESRI\ESRI.ArcGIS.AddIns.Server.targets')" />

When I comment it out, it builds properly.

Output file using Export Web map - Security concerns

$

Hi everyone,

My concern is when passing the JSON to a customized Export Print GP Service (created and running on ArcServer), the output Param given is always the same overall file name.
In this case: _ags_0e39f550422945438fa0de5c6e211bae

e.g. :
h ttp://xxxx/arcgis/rest/directories/arcgisoutput/xxxxx/ExportWebMap_GPServer/_ags_0e39f550422945438fa0de5c6e211bae.pdf

If you let the 10min clean up to occur, the next time the service is called, the SAME AGS file name is created and returned.
If you send JSON to the service again.. it simply increments.

e.g.
h ttp://xxxx/arcgis/rest/directories/arcgisoutput/xxxxx/ExportWebMap_GPServer/_ags_0e39f550422945438fa0de5c6e211bae1.pdf

If you change format... same thing again.

e.g.
h ttp://xxxx/arcgis/rest/directories/arcgisoutput/xxxxx/ExportWebMap_GPServer/_ags_0e39f550422945438fa0de5c6e211bae.jpg

Is there any way to ensure these file names are unique? (e.g. random generated)

There would be nothing stopping a user from entering the same value and watch the various maps being exported as the name is not a random generated file name.
I dont understand why the file names are not unique, other than ease for cleanup on server side.

Any option to change this is welcome!
thanks.

Data format for publishing services

Hello all,
is there any advantage/disadvantage to use shapefiles or personal geodatabase as data source to be send to ArcGIS for Server 10.1 when publishing a service?
What is the data format that ArcGIS for Server 10.1 is storing the data? Any difference which data format the source data is?

Thanks for any answer!

Best regards,

ClassFactory cannot supply requested class

I loaded my SOE (which works great on 10.0) into 10.1. Added it to the capabilities of my service and attempted to start it up.

I get:

Failed to construct instance of service '<service name>.MapServer'. ClassFactory cannot supply requested class

from the Server.

What does this mean? How do I fix it?

I have verbose logging on and am getting nothing from my SOE (which logs fine in 10.0).

Thanks,

Linux Cleanup of service definition files in /arcgis/.local/share/Trash/files

Can anyone provide me with any information on this directory? The size of this directory is extremely large and needs to be purged on occasion. Are there any built-in functions that remove these files or do you need to remove yourself. It appears as though these files are meant to be put into a Windows directory for deleting but this cannot happen on Linux. I say this because the path references a "dosdevice" directory within the .wine runtime framework. Here is an example file I am referring to:

ags_user@webapps.test.dir.census.gov.../arcgis/.local/share/Trash/info $ more *

Arabic.sd-1.trashinfo

How to 'serve' features...

$

I'm still learning so this might be simple...seems like it should be. I have a SQL Enterprise Geodatabase (sde) that has 2 feature classes that I want to share. I have added those features to a map (mxd) along with several other features. I then "publish" this to a PMF file on the lan. Now, I'd like users to open the PMF file and see all the features but the 2 features from the sde database have red exclamation marks next to them and are grayed out. I assume this means those users don't have 'read' rights to that database.

So, I was thinking I could somehow push the features from the sde database to the server as a service and then add them to an mxd from the service...and then they would be available to the users as they have 'read' rights to that server. Make sense???

I guess what I'm asking is this: Using ArcGIS for Server and the Publisher extension....how do I create a PMF (published map file) with features from an Enterprise Geodatabase that users who only have read access to the server can see the features?

Unable to publish Geocoding service: 'Unable to connect to publishing tool service"

Hi all

I am trying to publish a geocoding service from a locator in ArcCatalog 10.1 SP1 using the 'Share As -> Geocoding Service' method. When I do this I go through the process and at the last I receive an error stating 'Failed to Publish Service'. When I look at the GeoProc results I see an error stating 'ERROR: unable to connect to publishing service tools service. Verify the service is up and running'

I created a simple map and used the same method to successfully create a map service and so I think that the problem is just with publishing locators as geocoding servives.

Any clues?

Datum transformation using 10.1 Geometry service

Hi,

I'm wondering whether anyone can help me apply a data transformation on some co-ordinates?

The input co-ordinate will be in BNG (WKID 27700) but I need to plot it on a service using tiled map services in Web-Mercator (WKID 102100). I use the following transformation in ArcGIS Desktop: OSGB_1936_To_WGS_1984_Petroleum - I understand that datum transformations are possible using the 10.1 Geometry service? I code my applications in Flex, so if anyone can offer some advice or guidance here, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Karl

Printing Secured Servies with Export web map task

$

We've created a toolbox to print the secured service as per these instructions:
http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/...000005q3000000

Since we're testing, I used my permissions, which are listed as admin.

I'm getting the following errors:
Layer "layer0": Unable to connect to map server at <Secured Service URL>
Layer "graphicsLayer4": Failed to create layer from service at <Secured Service URL>

We're using Window's Users.

We've recreated the toolbox and tried a couple other user's permissions (just to test) and still have the same issues. I know it's
something that people have done successfully, so there's got to be a solution.

Any ideas what I could try?

Related tables in 10.1

Hi Guys,

I'm not sure if I'm doing this wrong or what, but I can't get related tables to show up using the ArcGIS Rest API in 10.1. I have a map document with a table of STATE attributes and a table of child attributes (1 state per many child table). I go into the state TABLE in arcmap --> Joins & Relates --> Relate... to create the relationship. In ArcMap, everything is perfectly okay. However, when I publish to 10.1 Server it pretends no relationship actually exists. What gives?

I want to be able to query related records through the REST API like this....but with two non-spatial tables.

Procedure for updating a service?

$

My utility service comes from a geodatabase in a different projection than my working data. So when I update my data I go into the webmapping.gdb and delete the feature classes and reexport the updated features into that geodatabase and change the projection in the process. This doesn't seem to work to make the new lines and features appear. So I re-share my service from the .mxd and overwrite the old service and the old cache. But I keep getting an error 1369. The server windows 2008 R2. Am I going about this all wrong? How would you update the data in your services?

How to delete the data source in dynamic workspace in ArcGIS server 10.1

Hi. I configured a dynamic workspace for ArcGIS server 10.1 to provide dynamic layer. I have added many data sources into the dynamic workspace, after showing the data in map I want to delete some of them. But I could not delete some data sources unless close the server. My question is whether I can delete some data sources from the dynamic workspace without closing the server? Thanks.

code can't access published services

Hello all,

I'm confused to the point where I'm not sure what the title of this forum post should be, but I am indeed in need of assistance.

I published a map service or service from arcmap and I know, it is indeed published as it is shown in my "arcgis server manager" under "services", now I attempt to initialize this file on my map, it never maps. I'm using the REST URL given under "capabilities":

So I have several questions, is there a problem with my server not running or perhaps a firewall? I am pretty certain it is not my code.

Things I can do: view the preview via arcCatalog, view the preview on arcgis server manager when I sign in. I'm very new to arcgis server and I could use any help, thank you!

Server Search Service is always indexing

$

We are having an issue where our search service will be in a constant indexing status of 'indexing' and even more odd is that it shows the next scheduled indexing for a date that has already passed. I have attached a screen shot of the problem taken today 3/18 and as you can see, the next scheduled indexing is set for 3/16.

Has anyone else had an issue like this? Is there a known bug/fix for this? I cannot find anything regarding search indexing other than this: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/202...ll=1#post65467

ISSUE - ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 for Server Manager Login Patch -

$

I did some tests on this patch, here are the list of my environment:
- A VM Win2k8 64bit as ArcGIS server 10.1 SP1 (Let's call BIRD)
- A VM Win2k8 64bit as File server (Let's call NEST)

First:
I installed the patch with all directories and config-store were in local. Server was working fine. I was able to register any data store and able to publish any service.

Second:
I installed the patch with all directories and config-store were in NEST (File server and connect using UNC path) Server was not working fine. I was unable to register any data store and unable to publish any service. Soon after I uninstalled the patch, I was able to register data store and publish service and etc.

I did this many times by removed the site and created new site and then reconfigure.

QUESTION: Did someone in this forum (reader) has the same issue? or did I miss something in my configuration?

Thank you!

PrintingTools (GP server) Export Web Map Task - Scaling Issues?

$

I am testing 10.1 PrintService (both the default and custom Export Web Map Task) with the Flexviewer 3.0 Print Widget.

When printing, if the user does not check “use this scale” box in the Flex Print Widget, it will print out a map at slightly larger scale (and scale with the map viewer), one that doesn’t match any of the standard ArcGIS Online/ Bing Maps/ Google Maps scales and seems arbitrary. If you click “use this scale” then zoom in and out the scale does not automatically change, and will print at fixed scale even though the user is zoomed in. So say a user is zoomed in at 1:36,112 and the “use this scale” is checked at 577791, the output map is nothing like what the user is looking at on the screen. This is confusing to the user.

Is this a known issue?

Attachment 22713

Also, the legend outputs are inconsistent. Sometimes they print out a nice graphic of the legend, other times the graphic is barely legible.

It would be also nice if there was something on the resources/help that states all of the acceptable
layout sizes you can use through the PrintingTools(GP Server)

service type for feature labels and attribute table???

$

What service should i use if I need access and display of attribute table data AND labels to display? I have tried both a map service and a feature service and it seems I cannot get either service to perform both functions. Or is there a setting or property I should be setting that I am unaware of?

My featuer labels only seem to display when I use a map service and I load into Silverlight viewer as a "grouped" service, similar to grouping features in ArcMap. But using this method doesn't allow me to select an individual service to access the table function. I ca nselect the "grouped" layer but this doesn't have any data, it is nothing more than a grouped heirarchy structure.

The attribute table is accessible only when features are loaded as individual features (map service & feature service) but I get no labels.
