Cache stops processing before tile generation is complete

$

Hello All,

I have caches created and when I go to update them using the "Manage Map Server Cache Tiles" to RECREATE_ALL_TILES the cache will start processing and updating tiles but then will stop creating any new tiles but will show that the tool is still processing.

Fortunately or unfortunately on occation a cache will process correctly which really confuses me.

We are using Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 and are on ArcGIS Server 10.1.

Thanks for any help,
Mark

ArcGIS Server 10.2 copies rasters even though I registered the folder

I have a FGDB on a local drive of my ArcGIS server. The folder containing this FGDB is registered.

The FGDB contains a plain table with the following columns: OBJECTID, IMAGE, XMIN, YMIN, XMAX, YMAX. The IMAGE column contains the network path to individual rasters. The network path to the rasters is also registered.

When I publish a map service and click Analyze, there are no warnings about data copying.

Once I publish the map service, a subfolder called "images" appears inside the FGDB folder and the IMAGE column gets changed to this newly created location. The ArcGIS server also copies all the raster tiff files into this newly created images folder.

Is there any way I can convince ArcGIS server not to do this without turning off automatic data copying?

According to the documentation:

"the setup will detect your existing 10.1 or 10.1 SP1 of ArcGIS for Server on the target machine and prompt you to decide if you want to continue or exit the upgrade"

When we launched this it did not detect the current version and is trying to fire an new installation.

Our current verions is installed in the following

/opt/arcgis/server

instead of the default directory.

ArcGIS Server Manager login hangs in Mozilla Firefox 25.0

Hi,
I have been on ArcGIS Server 10.1 for about six months and have been able to login to Server Manager to check the log messages in Mozilla Firefox or IE.
I got an automatic request to upgrade my desktop Firefox to version 25. I allowed this. Now I can't log on to ArcGIS Server Manager in Firefox. Thankfully I can still login in IE.
Any ideas? I have tried using the Web Adaptor address and the local ArcGIS Server's server address and can't get past the signon on either way. When I hit the browser back button a couple times it takes me back to the signon screen. It shows the button to Logoff then, as if I am logged in. But of course I can't go anywhere from the login screen.
It displays the Please Wait... symbol as it is in the hanging status.

Thanks,
Janie

I installed the ArcGIS server 10.1 on my machine. Then I shared a map document in the ArcGIS desktop and saved as .sd file. I want to publish the map document using .sd file onto my ArcGIS server. I followed the instruction here (http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/...0000nwn000000/) and got the message saying successfully published the service.
However, the published service didn't show in the list under "manage service" tab as it should be. Why? I need to make some changes on the properties of the service. Need your help!!! Thank you in advance.

I'm attempting to publush/update services to a GIS server that i have been using for several years. Recently when I attempt to do so, the page does not open correctly, or should I say, to it's full extent (see image). I'm using IE9 and do not have permissions to use other web browsers.

Can anyone help me figure out the issue I'm having and how to go about fixing it?

Thank you

Exposing services to external users in 10.1

$

Services published in ArcGIS Server 10.1 to our production server are displaying internal URLs instead of our preferred external URL, particularly in the WMS GetCapabilities response. How can we change this URL?

In the 10.0 help it mentions changing the REST configuration file:
http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisserv...00001657000000

This blog post gives similar information:
http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/20...ces-directory/

However I haven't found anything comparable for 10.1. Is there something I'm missing? We are using a web adaptor with a pair of servers in our setup.

Hi all,

I was about to publish a map to the ArcServer but (not sure since when) every layers that I have in the map shows

Code 24011 Layer's data source is not registered with the server and data will be copied to the server

all layers are in SDE server and all connected fine.

also when I check server properties

Server Properties > Data Store > Registered Databases

there are registered databases that I use.

Now what should I check to solve this problem?

I've watched videos that registering databases and folders.

Thank you,

Jack

Overwriting existing service using ArcPy

I've been trying to figure out how to overwrite an existing service and I found the following code in ArcGIS Server Help:
Code:

# Import system modules
import arcpy
from arcpy import env
import xml.dom.minidom as DOM

# Set environment settings
env.workspace = "C:/data"

# Set local variables
inServiceDefinitionDraft = "myMapService.sddraft"
outServiceDefinition = "myMapService.sd"
newType = 'esriServiceDefinitionType_Replacement'

xml = draftPath + in_sd_draft
doc = DOM.parse(xml)
descriptions = doc.getElementsByTagName('Type')
for desc in descriptions:
    if desc.parentNode.tagName == 'SVCManifest':
        if desc.hasChildNodes():
            desc.firstChild.data = newType
outXml = xml
f = open(outXml, 'w')
doc.writexml( f )
f.close()

# Execute StageService
arcpy.StageService_server(inServiceDefinitionDraft, outServiceDefinition)

# Set local variables
inSdFile = outServiceDefinition
inServer = "GIS Servers/myServerConnection"

# Execute UploadServiceDefinition
arcpy.UploadServiceDefinition_server(inSdFile, inServer)

Looks straight forward except for the line "xml = draftPath + in_sd_draft". Neither one of these variables (draftPath or in_sd_draft) are defined in the script and I don't know what they should be. Would it be c:/Data/myMapService.sddraft? Has anyone tried this script and gotten it to work?

Dear Gurus!
I have x,y table where status of the emergency situations are saving. Operators can add or modify record in the table of sql server. How I can publish service with the layer on this table so, that I can see any changes in tables in real time. May be some reference on how this problem may be solved. Can I set the time of refreshing layer? Thanks in advance!

GIS Site with both 10.1 and 10.2 GIS servers possible?

$

Considering the similarities between 10.1 and 10.2 I was wondering if you could have a 10.1 and 10.2 GIS Server "attached" to the same GIS Site?

We have some legacy ADF code that will need to keep running on 10.1 as 10.2 does not support any ADF code but we also need all our capacity for the more popular map services and we're keen on moving to 10.2 to keep up to date.

Anyone got any clues?

Printing service resusing temporay file name

I have a print service that uses custom layouts.

I followed the tutorial described in the help documents to publish a new print service...

http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/...00005n1000000/

The problem comes in when I do a lot of printing the server generates the same PDF file name which gets stored in my browsers history. So in order to see the new printout that I want I have to clear the history. If not I get an old file that I may have printed 20 minutes ago.

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem?

Are the temporary file name generated by ArcGIS server based on some server setting? time stamp setting? How can I ensure that the names will be unique?

Hello,

I have published a simple shapefile map as mapping service.

I tried to change the renderer in the client side. I already got the new renderer from generate render task. But the map itself does not change. I did not get any error msg.

Is there any setting I need to change in the server side???

How to enable feature access for some layers from .mxd document

Dear Gurus!
I have .mxd document with 3 kind of layers.
1. topo layers
2. layers with constant information (cities, for example) with need to provide feature access for enabling query
3. layers with dinamic data, wich are changing in real time, for example, table of forest fires.
Can I publish 3 type of services from one .mxd file or I must create 3 .mxd files?
Can you get any reference to understand with this problem?

Can't export a tile package from a map service cache using a geoprocessing service

$

The following (long) post describes the steps that we've taken to do something that should be fairly straightforward: using a geoprocessing web service, export a user-defined portion of a map service cache to a tile package. This seems like it should be a common use case, and there are various tools available for exporting a map service cache, but we've as yet been unable to do this.

If anyone can provide suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jon.

Objective

Our client has an instance of ArcGIS Server that hosts a number of cached map services that are designed to be used as basemaps in a variety of applications. We have created a Silverlight Viewer for ArcGIS application that allows end users to browse and explore the collection of available basemaps.

From time to time, our client's end users will need to extract tile packages from these cached map services to be used as basemaps in ArcGIS Runtime applications. Typically, the user will define an area tens or hundreds of kilometres across to extract for one or more basemaps.

In most cases, these end users will not have access to ArcGIS for Desktop. To accommodate these users, we intend to make this capability available as a geoprocessing service accessible as a tool in the Silverlight Viewer for ArcGIS application.

Overview

The first step to make this tool available in a web application is to publish it as a web service to ArcGIS for Server. This document describes three approaches that we attempted to create a geoprocessing service to export a map cache in ArcGIS for Server, and the problems encountered with each method.

The following map shows the test area that we used for these tests. It is a 1km x 1km area centred at 421 Richmond Road, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Attachment 29209

To avoid any potential issues with permissions and security settings, we ran ArcMap as the ArcGIS Server user (i.e., the same user that runs the ArcGIS Server processes) on the server machine hosting ArcGIS for Server. We also created a shared folder on this machine to which the ArcGIS Server user has Full Control permissions (both on the network share and on NTFS) to store the generated tile packages, and used the UNC path to this folder when specifying the output location.

Export Map Server Cache

The Export Map Server Cache tool allows a user to extract tiles from a cached map service to a tile package. It's located in the Caching toolset in the Server Tools toolbox.

To begin, we ran the Export Map Server Cache tool in ArcMap to generate a valid geoprocessing result. the following screenshot illustrates the parameters used.

Attachment 29210

Following is the Python snippet that represents this instance of running the tool:

Code:

arcpy.ExportMapServerCache_server("GIS Servers/GEO-ARC-DMZ/World_Street_Map.MapServer","//GEO-ARC-DMZ/ExportMapCacheOutput","TILE_PACKAGE","DO_NOT_COPY","COMPACT","591657527.591555;295828763.795777;147914381.897889;73957190.948944;36978595.474472;18489297.737236;9244648.868618;4622324.434309;2311162.217155;1155581.108577;577790.554289;288895.277144;144447.638572;72223.819286;36111.909643;18055.954822;9027.977411;4513.988705;2256.994353;1128.497176","5","Feature Set","#","OVERWRITE")
Initially, running this tool caused a crash in background processing. Turning off background geoprocessing and running the tool again crashed ArcMap. To resolve this problem, we restarted the server machine (including the ArcGIS Server instance hosting the cached map service). After restarting the server, we were able to run this process successfully. It finished in about 8m30s, and produced a valid tile package as output.

Next, we attempted to publish the result to ArcGIS Server. In the geoprocessing Results window, we right-clicked on the result, and clicked Share As > Geoprocessing Service.

On the first dialog in the wizard, we clicked Next.

We clicked Next to accept the default server connection and service name.

We clicked Next to publish to the root folder.

On the Service Editor dialog, we clicked Analyze to check the service definition before publishing.

The following warning was generated:

Code:

SEVERITY STATUS CODE DESCRIPTION NAME TYPE DATA FRAME
High Unresolved 24032 Data source used by Task Export Map Server Cache is not registered with the server and will be copied to the server: GIS Servers\GEO-ARC-DMZ\World_Street_Map.MapServer ExportMapServerCache Tool Unknown

This seems to indicate that the service can't be published because the server can't access the GIS Server connection file. So, we copied the ArcGIS Server connection file to the c:\temp directory (ensuring that the ArcGIS Server user had access to the c:\temp directory), and re-ran the geoprocessing tool, this time using the ArcGIS Server connection file that we just copied to the c:\temp folder.

We then attempted to publish the new result to ArcGIS Server. However, the same warning was generated when analyzing the new service definition, indicating that the ArcGIS Server connection in the c:\temp folder isn't accessible. To remedy this, we registered the c:\temp folder with ArcGIS Server, and re-ran Analyze. The same warning occurred. Since it was only a warning, we elected to attempt to publish the service anyway. When publishing the service, the dialog indicating that data will be copied to the server was displayed.

Attempting to publish the service resulted an Error dialog with the message "Failed to create service definition."

Thinking that the problem might lie with using an ArcGIS Server connection file, we attempted to use the map service's REST URL to specify the map service. We believed that this shouldn't work, because the REST URL isn't the correct data type for this input, and because an administrator connection to ArcGIS Server is required to export a map cache. In fact, pasting the REST URL for the map service in the Input Service parameter text box in the geoprocessing tool resulted in an error.

Export Cache

Next, we attempted to use the Export Cache tool, located in the System\CachingTools folder in ArcGIS Server. This tool appears to be a worker tool, and not intended for end users, since it appears to have no associated documentation. However, we attempted anyway. The following figure shows the parameters used when we attempted to run this tool.

Attachment 29214

Running this tool resulted in an error on the server. Following is the error message displayed in the geoprocessing Results window:

Code:

Submitted.
Executing...
ERROR 999999: Error executing function.
ArcGIS Server requires a service type (ParentType) and a server object extension type (Type).
Failed.

Export Tile Cache

Finally, we attempted to export the tile cache directly (bypassing the map service) using Export Tile Cache tool found in the Tile Cache toolset in the Data Management Tools toolbox. The following figure illustrates the parameters that we used when running this tool.

Attachment 29215

The messages generated by this tool appear to indicate that there would be 2 parallel processes performing the work:

Code:

Messages
Executing: ExportTileCache \\ARCGISDATAAPP\cache\World_Street_Map\Layers \\GEO-ARC-DMZ\ExportMapCacheOutput World_Street_Map TILE_CACHE COMPACT 591657527.591555;295828763.795777;147914381.897889;73957190.948944;36978595.474472;18489297.737236;9244648.868618;4622324.434309;2311162.217155;1155581.108577;577790.554289;288895.277144;144447.638572;72223.819286;36111.909643;18055.954822;9027.977411;4513.988705;2256.994353;1128.497176 "Feature Set"

Exporting tile cache using 2 parallel instances.
Exporting tile cache for feature with OID: 1.
Exporting cache for scale: 591657527.591555.

The Resource Monitor indicated that there were, in fact, 2 Runtime Local Server processes running, but it appeared that only 1 instance was doing anything.

At the time this document was written, this process was still executing. We estimate that it will take roughly 7.5 hours to complete export a 1km x 1km tile package using this tool, so clearly this doesn't seem to be viable solution.

ArcGIS server crashed how to resume tile caching?

Hi there,

I published my first multi-scale layer map onto our ArcGIS server but unfortunately after two days the machine where ArcGIS server is installed on crashed so we had to reboot the machine.

I thought the server would pick up the tile caching process where it left automatically but it did not. How can I resume the tile caching process?

Any help would be great.

Thank you

Lock Files on File Geodatabases at v10.2

$

To All ArcGIS Servers (AGS) Users and Administrators:

I have been using AGS since version 9.x. Up until 10.0 (my organization is skipping 10.1), there were lock files placed on file geodatabases that were the datasource for running mapservices. In copying file geodatabases from the development environment to the test environment for AGS v10.2 on services that were running in the development environment, I noticed that there were no lock files on the file geodatabases in v10.2.

Is this the expected behavior at v10.2 or would the lack of locks on the file geodatabases indicate a problem with my AGS v10.2 environment?

Any help or hints on this topic are greatly appreciated.
