how to detect missing datasources in mapservice

$

hi

if arcgis server is started using the windows service manager, every registered mapservice is started. the protocol-section in arcgis manager informs about any failed service-layers due to missing datasources in the underlying mxd.

is there also a logfile containg this information? as we run around 100 mapservices and don't wan't to parse 100 different logfiles, it would has to be a single logfile containing information about all failed service startups.

regards

george

Hi all,

I am running this script. I get a 400 error message. The message is the following:

Code:
{"error":{"code":400,"message":"Unable to complete operation.","details":["Server environment property not found: requestProperties"]}}
I am not sure what it is. I am using the Extract Data Task (Server) tool for 10.2.

Thank you,
Alex

Bad login user while Registering Data Stores

This isn't a question, but we're posting a resolution for an issue.

While attempting to register a map as a service in ArcServer 10.1, we kept getting the message in this post's attachment.

So, we found that our:
  • GIS Services connection worked
  • SDE Connection worked
  • PG Client Libraries were properly installed on both Server and Desktop
  • All users were set to TRUST in pg_hba.conf

Both ArcMap and ArcCatalog would continue failing to register the data with our ArcGIS Server.

To resolve this, we opened the pg_hba.conf and updated the loopback addresses from MD5 (default) to Trust. Once this was done, we were able to register the data.

I'm guessing this may resolve the issue with other flavors of SQL besides Postgres.

Custom GP service not providing error message details yet msg level is set to 'info'

$

I have a custom GP service that pre-processes JSON and sends it to the Export Web Map tool. If the Export Web Map tool fails, I would like to receive the error details in my Flex application. Essentially, I would like the same error message written to the AGS log to be returned to the Flex client. I set the Message Level to "Info" within the GP Service on AGS, but when an error occurs, the "details" field in the returned JSON is still empty. This is what I receive:

Code:

{"error":{"code":400,"message":"Unable to complete operation.","details":[]}}
Any ideas why my errors aren't including additional details? Thanks.

Good afternoon. If I publish a map service, can I show text at the bottom of the map (footnote coming from database) when I print the map? I do not need the footnote to show when viewing the map in the a web application. Can someone point me in the direction of some documentation/example?

Thanks...Chris

Republishing a service from the Server Toolbox

I have an existing service and service definition file that I need to update based on changes to resources that our field crews input daily, but I cannot figure out a way to automate this process using the Server tools toolbox.

I am trying to use the Upload SD tool. Under service definition, I navigated to the SD file I created, pointed it to the correct server, and under Override Service Properties (I am assuming this is where you can override an existing service), I entered the service name to override, set the folder type to existing, etc.

When I run the tool, however, I get an error message saying that the service already exists.

Has anyone used successfully used overwritten an existing service with this tool?

Secure Map Services

I have created some secure map services which are only accessible to users logged onto the company domain having the appropriate windows role.

Is it possible to configure the service/ArcGIS Server so that the user does not have to supply the username/password to obtain a token as they are already logged onto the company domain?

Query Shape.STLength/ Shape.STArea not working for the map/feature service

Hi,
Anyone knows why we cannot query the Shape.STLength()/ Shape.STArea() field in the map services. The data was stored in the ArcSDE. But we are able to select features by the query like Shape.STLength() < 10000 in the ArcMap with the sde data loaded. More details in the attachments. Thank you very much.

"The dataset will be copied to the server" message

$

I have an mxd file that I want to publish, all the layers and tables in the map document are reading data from a database connection (Its name is “Q”), I registered this database connection (Server properties>>data store). When I start publishing this service, the message that says “dataset will be copied to the server” appears, in spite of registering this database!!!! How can I publish the service without copying the data to the server?

Notes:

1-I stopped the ArcGIS server service and started it, and the machine was rebooted, but the message is still appearing.
2-My machine is not connected to other machines.

Hani

Hello
I try to create a soe in Eclipse (I successfully followed the walkthrough) and don't know why some of my methods don't work:

Code:

package soe;

import java.math.BigInteger;

import com.esri.arcgis.interop.extn.ArcGISExtension;

@ArcGISExtension
public interface MyInterface {
    public void m1(); // ok
    public void m2(int a1); //nok: "javac" terminated with errors
    public int m3(); // ok
    public String m4(); // ok
    public Integer m5(); //nok: "null"
    public MyType m6(); // ok
    public void m7(String a1); //nok: "javac" terminated with errors
    public void m8(MyType a1); //nok: "javac" terminated with errors
    public BigInteger m9(); //nok: "wsimport" terminated with errors
}

I try to generate the *.soe with the eclipse plugin.

Unable to use ArcGIS Server services - Internet Explorer ArcCatalog

When I use IE 9 I can not view the http://server.name.com/arcgis/rest/services. I have also tried http://server.name.com:6080/arcgis/rest/services, http://server.name.com:6080/arcgis/services and http://server.name.com/arcgis/services.

However on the very same computer I can use that same address with Chrome or Firefox to view the services.

This is a problem because in Catalog I want to add the Server to my maps. I get a "Error: Proxy server got bad address..." see attached screenshot.

On a coworkers computer he can add the server inside Catalog and he can go to the web address with IE. So I assume there a setting in Windows or IE that prevents my IE and Catalog from accessing the Server. The server is public and does not require a login account.

Reproject Data or On-the-Fly for Web Mercator services?

$

I know there are two options to create WGS services if your data is in a different coordinate system (like State Plane): Reproject the data to WGS or to change the mxd to on-the-fly transformation. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, the former is time-consuming and the latter comes at a performance cost.

I assume there are a lot of sites out there that have their data in State Plane (or other) coordinate system and publish map services as WGS for sharing etc. Which one of the two options is best practice or commonly done.

hasRasterAttributeTable: mosaic dataset vs layer file

$

Hello,
So I created a mosaic dataset and published it to arcgis server. The hasRasterAttributeTable property is set to true and I can see the attribute table with this link: http://<imageservice-url>/rasterAttributeTable.
However, if I save the mosaic dataset as a layer (lyr) file and then publish the layer file, the hasRasterAttributeTable property is set to false and http://<imageservice-url>/rasterAttributeTable doesn't work.
Why is this and how can I get the raster attribute table to show up when I publish a layer file?
Thank you.

Hi,

I am having problems when I try to use map services from a server connect as a user, I can not add the service to arcmap. When connected as an administrator, I do not have the problem. The service is publish with no security, so I do not understand why I can not load it as a user, help please?.

BTW, the problem occurs when accessing the server from internet, local there is no problem, that is what make me think is a security issue.

Manuel

Offline Map (CreateReplica) with a user with only SELECT permissions on the dataset

$

I want to deploy a service that can be used offline, but I don't want to allow editing on this service. I also do not want to use a user account that has EDIT permissions on the dataset in my feature service, but I cannot get this to work properly. The CreateReplica request fails and the server has the following log entry:

An error occurred while adding an entry to the FEATUREDATASET_CLASSES or the FEATURECLASSES table. [Read only data or unversioned data cannot be replicated. Data versioned with the option to move edits to base cannot be replicated. GlobalIDs are required for two way and one way replica data. Creating one way replica using archiving requires archiving the replicated parent data.]

If I switch to a user with edit permissions on the data, this problem goes away.

These are the options I am using.

Is there a way to make this work? Can I get this data offline without granting edit permissions?
