Map caching error for a particular scale

Hi,
I have a published a mxd having a satellite image and created cache for number of scales. However I am not able to create a cache on a particular scale. I have tried other alternatives like changing the mxd, changing number of service instances, changing cache directory etc but still I am getting the same error.

Have attached a snapshot of the error for reference.

Please suggest how do I create cache for the image.

Thanks in advance,

Satish

Creating a Web Mapping Application

Hi,

I am trying to create a custom web mapping application, but having difficulty understanding where to place customized html/javascript code.

I have created a basemap using ArcMap and have published the mxd with ArcServer. I can access the basemap and the various layers using Server Manager.

Now that i have assured my connections are functioning, i would like to begin to customize the web mapping application, but cannot figure out where to place the customized code.

ArcDesktop 10.1 (ArcMap, Catalog, SDE and Server)
Windows Server 2008 R2
Notepad++

Thanks

Can't replicate more than one table at a time?

I am trying to create a replica that has two tables in it. At first glance the replica is created and runs successfully however, upon examination, I notice that only one of the tables in my replica actually made over. I was able to duplicate this behavior on two different GDBs. My work around was of course to create a distinct replica for each table. A little less convenient but not a problem. Just wondering if this is a bug or is it by design?

Thanks

Web Edits Applying to ALL Versions

I created a feature service with two SDE layers (SQL Server), and connected to a version called "User Edits." It is a child of DEFAULT.

The layers are registered as versioned.

All edits that are applied in ArcGIS Explorer Online to the features in the map service get applied to both the "User Edits" version, ad the DEFAULT version simultaneously.

Is this normal, or is there a setting I am not setting?

I want online editors to only edit the child version, and then I will reconcile and post at regular intervals to the DEFAULT.

Is this possible?

Thank you,

where's shared key for web adaptor in service pack 1

What happened to the shared key option when selecting web adaptor as the authentication tier in arcgis manager? Was it removed in service pack 1? I didn't find anything under the "what's new" for service pack 1. Thanks for any help.

ArcGIS for Server vs. ArcGIS spatial data server

I just found that there is a product called ArcGIS spatial data server.
And reading about it, found it is very similar to ArcGIS for server (just subset of it).
So, what is the difference between the two?
is it just a subset of the full server, so maybe it is cheaper?

CAN NOT REGISTER ORACLE DATABASE IN ANOTHER DOMAIN

Hello Everyone,

I can't seem to get ArcGIS Server to register a .sde, direct connection to an Oracle database in a domain that's not the same as the one my ArcGIS server is a member. This .sde connection works fine within ArcCatalog, but no-worky from ArcGIS Server - Is this the same kind of issue with ArcGIS Server security not being able to query active directory outside its own domain (that is a known issue)? I was told/emailed by support that this issue with Active Directory would be solved with Service Pack 2 - well, it's time for that bit of software to hit the street - any thoughts, ESRI?

How to monitor the traffic and know who access to ArcGIS Server

Hi, team

Is there any effective IT way or ESRI-ready tool (script) for us to know the traffic at ArcGIS Server 10.1 (saying, at the port 6080 or 6443) and see who access to this server?

Basically, we want to answer the following questions via statistics?

• How many users access (weekly, monthly, yearly)
• Who visited

Many thanks in advance,

Publishing PYT with input workspace parameter pointing to versioned GDB

Hello all,

I know that ArcGIS server (10.1.1) disallows the same geodatabase connection to be registered twice, but it does not seem to object to having data stores registered that point to different versions in the same geodatabase. Is this something that should not be done?

The issue I've encountered happens when I publish a new tool from a python toolbox as a GP service. One of its input parameters is a workspace, and when I execute the tool, the workspace I point to is an SDE enterprise geodatabase connection file that references a specific version in the enterprise geodatabase on my local machine (sde.Dev).

On the ArcGIS server site, I have a data store registered that uses a different connection for the publisher/server database, where the server has an identical schema, and identical versioning setup. The connection data through the admin REST API looks like the following:

Code:

{
  "path": "/enterpriseDatabases/gdbname_dev",
  "type": "egdb",
  "id": null,
  "clientPath": null,
  "totalRefCount": 0,
  "info": {
    "dataStoreConnectionType": "replicated",
    "isManaged": false,
    "clientConnectionString": "ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=xxxxx;SERVER=localhost;INSTANCE=sde:postgresql:localhost;DBCLIENT=postgresql;DB_CONNECTION_PROPERTIES=localhost;DATABASE=gdbname;USER=sde;VERSION=sde.Dev;AUTHENTICATION_MODE=DBMS",
    "connectionString": "ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=xxxxx;SERVER=servername;INSTANCE=sde:postgresql:servername;DBCLIENT=postgresql;DB_CONNECTION_PROPERTIES=servername;DATABASE=gdbname;USER=sde;VERSION=sde.Dev;AUTHENTICATION_MODE=DBMS"
  }
}

I also have a similar data store registered that points to the DEFAULT version of the same enterprise geodatabase (i.e., the same parameters as as above, but replace '/enterpriseDatabases/gdbname_dev' with '/enterpriseDatabases/gdbname', and 'sde.Dev' with 'sde.DEFAULT'). When I publish the geoprocessing service after having run the tool using the SDE connection file configured to point to sde.Dev as the input workspace, and after everything validates fine in the service editor, the published service ends up pointing to sde.DEFAULT instead. I can confirm this by finding the connection file in the arcgisserver/directories/arcgissystem/... path.

If I remove the registered data store that points to the DEFAULT version of geodatabase, it will use the correct connection when published.

Map services do not seem to have the same problem (I can have both versions of geodatabases registered, and published services will still point to the sde.Dev version of the workspace when appropriate).

Spatial Views not Updating

Hello,

I'm new to the spatial view world, and I my spatial views aren't updating when I update the base feature class. Here is my situation:

We have several spatial views built from a script. The views were created using different definition queries, but they're all from the same base feature class. The spatial views are used on a production server within a web mapping application, so they have locks created by the ArcGIS server service. The base feature class has been "registered as versioned" in order to create and add new data. When I added new data to the base feature class, the spatial views didn't update with the new features.

Is this because of the "locks" on the spatial views from the server service?

Why aren't they updating? Shouldn't they update automatically?

Thanks.

When should I add a new Virtual Machine ?

Suppose I have Windows Server 2008 with hyper V, running just one virtual machine with ArcGIS Server installed on it.

As I add more mapservices and performance slows, I'm faced with a choice: either add a new virtual machine to the server and then add it as a new machine the the ArcGIS site, or just allocate more resources (memory/cpu) to the existing virtual machine.

More generally ...
What are the tradeoffs between having a lot of virtual machines (each running as a machine in an ArcGIS site) with just a few mapservices on each machine, vs having just a few virtual machines with more memory/cpu allocated to each server but with more mapservices running on each?

I have a site license, so licensing costs are not an issue.

API to configure different symbols, color and label

Hi,

I have following tasks to be achived through ArcEditor 10.1 & I would like to know how to achive it-

1) Configuring different symbols, color and label- Is it possible to configure different symbols, color and labels to entities like, well, seismicline, seismicsurvey, field etc. If yes then how or using which tool ?

2) Define “Graphic objects”- Can I define graphic objects during configuration. If yes then how?

3) Configuring different symbols, color and label for defined "Graphic objects"- For example, you can use one or more graphic object overlays to add graphic elements to represent fences, telephone poles, towers, etc.

4) Can I upload images for background layer in Map using Editor (If yes, then how ?) & does ArcEditor support TIFF, PGM, PPM image formats to upload?

5) Also, I would like to set access rights to map, so can I maintain map ownership and modification rights to others. If yes then how ?

Thanks in advance.....

Proxy Page Issue

Hello,

I have an application that I have been working on for a while that implements editing using the attribute inspector. The app was created using one of the local gov't templates and it included a proxy page. Prior to upgrading to ArcGIS Server 10.1, the editing was working and I was not having any issues with the proxy page.

After upgrading to 10.1, anytime the app needs to use the proxy page (editing or POST requests) I get a general error that says "NetworkError: 500 Internal Server Error".

Any ideas as to what might be causing this error? As mentioned above, it only started occurring after the upgrade to 10.1.

Thanks,
Mark

So I was looking into this more and found that if I debug the proxy.ashx (using visual studio) and run it on localhost (http://localhost:3274/appname/proxy.ashx) I am able to use the proxy to navigate to the applyedits rest endpoint. However, if I try to use the proxy from where the app sits on my server i get the error and cannot get to the applyEdits rest endpoint.

Summing it up...
This works...
http://localhost:3274/appname/proxy....r/2/applyEdits

This does not work and I get the error.
http://servername/websites/appname/p...r/2/applyEdits

The proxy.ashx and proxy.config are saved in the same folder as the html page for the app. Kind of at a loss as to what to check next. As I mentioned in my first post, this only occurred after upgrading to server 10.1 so I think it might have to do with adding the port number (servername: 6080) to the service rest endpoint url.

In very general terms, how do I give an exisitng Oracle DB a spatial component

$

Our organization recently upgraded to ArcGIS for Server. In the past, I maintained 3 important feature classes (2 point features and 1 polyine feature) in a File Geodatabase. Now that we have Server, I have moved 2 of the feature classes from the file gdb to a SQL Enterprise database (sde) so that I can edit and maintain those 2 features. The remaining feature is our Customer list. The mast customer list has been and still is maintained in an Oracle database. That data was periodically exported and then imported into the File Geodatabase and geocoded in order to show the customer locations on a map.

I don't maintain the customer database. However, I do still need to show the locations on maps. With Server, I am thining I should be able to connect to the Oracle Database and then add that data to the map that way. What I don't know is just how to go about this...

Does the Oracle db get a spatial component added to it? Or, is there a feature added to the SQL Enterprise db and then connected to a common field in the Oracle db?

i am very new to Server, Oracle, and SQL so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm just trying to first get a feel for the general way this should work....then figure out the how-to's of it.

Thanks!

Why do SOE's need to be ComVisible?

$

When I create a new SOE project using the Visual Studio template, it puts a ComVisible(true) attribute on the class.

Why can't ArcGIS Server just use Assembly.Load to load the SOE? The location of the SOE is in the json config file, so it shouldn't need to find it via the registry. Or, maybe it already does this, and the ComVisible is ignored?

Does this have anything to do with why I have to manually restart mapservices that use an SOE that I've just updated?

Cannot log into REST using Apache Load Balancer with ArcGIS Server 10.1

Hello,

We have the Apache load balancer (installed on its own server) working with ArcGIS Server 10.1 (installed on two other servers). We are not using the Web Adaptor on any of the servers. SSL is installed on the load balancer (using a temporary self-signed cert) but SSL is not installed on the ArcGIS Server servers.

We can access the REST services from the load balancer by using either http://balancername/arcgis/rest or by using https://balancername/arcgis/rest. The load balancer works fine until we try to log in to access a secure service. When trying to log in (with http or https), after entering the username and password and clicking the Login button, the REST login screen returns. When viewing the HTTP header traffic in Fiddler, it appears that the cookie/token information is not being passed up from the ArcGIS Server servers.

In the httpd.conf on the Apache load balancer, our basic configuration looks like this:

BalancerMember http://server2:6080 route=node2 retry=10
BalancerMember http://server1:6080 route=node1 retry=10
ProxySet StickySession=BALANCEID

In the server.xml located in C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\framework\runtime\tomcat\conf on each ArcGIS Server server, we have:

<Connector port="6009" protocol="AJP/1.3" redirectPort="6443"/>
and
<Engine name="Catalina" defaultHost="localhost" jvmRoute="node1"> (for server1, the other server uses node2)

In our existing ArcGIS Server 10.0 production environment, we are using the same Apache load balancer with no problem and thus wish to continue using this load balancer. If anyone can shed some light on this problem of not being able to log in to access REST services when using the Apache load balancer and without the use of the Web Adaptor, I would sure appreciate it!

Both external capabilities file and SLD file for 10.1 WMS?

$

I have an AGS 10.1 service with WMS enabled that I'd like to be able to both:

--provide additional projections, which means using an external capabilities file, AND
--enable legend support, which means using an SLD (style) file

I know that GetLegendGraphic is supported by default, since 10.0, but I need clients to automatically "see" the legend. The LegendUrl that's sent for a GetLegendGraphic request is for only one layer at a time, not a whole service. That support requires the sld file.

The ESRI documentation shows you how to point a service to an SLD file only when using a dynamically-generated capabilities file. Can anyone tell me how to refer to an SLD file in a manually created external capabilities file (if possible)?

Thanks!

Where is data stored when it's copied to ArcGIS for Server 10.1 through Desktop

$

I recently published a map from my desktop to my server, and went through the whole "Layer's data source is not registered with the server and data will be copied to the server" thing. This is fine because I'm not using an enterprise geodatabase, and just have a bunch of file geodatabases in a registered folder on my server. The data being copied over was itself a file geodatabase.
My question is where is the geodatabase placed when it's copied to the server. I couldn't find it in my registered folder, so is it somewhere else? Is it possible to specify where the geodatabase is placed when copied to the server?
I'm trying to keep my server clean, so if I choose to delete the map service, I also want to delete the source data on the server.

Thanks,

Jay

Geoprocessing Service that sends data to another server

$

Hi All,

I need to take input from my Flex Viewer application and pass values from user selections and map attributes to a server that is not running ArcGIS Server. These values would be certain user selected options and the foreign key (e.g. MapIDs) for the shapefile. This second server (not running ArcGIS Server) would then do some sophisticated stats on the user options and data residing in a database on that server, and then return the foreign key and new values that will be rendered on the screen as colors.

I can control the non-ArcGIS Server but am severely limited in what I can do on the ArcGIS Server (it is not under my control).

Talking things over with our dev team we thought about running a Geoprocessing Service on the ArcGIS Server that is in essence just a proxy - it would receive the user selected options and then just pass these our non-ArcGIS server.

Does this sound feasible ? If so I am a little fuzzy on exactly how we would be doing this. Any suggestions ?

Thanks !
